Nabwe achieved her personal best on her fifth attempt, and it also ranks as the third-best throw in the school’s history. Throughout the event, she consistently exceeded 22 meters, with her only foul occurring on her last throw. Her teammate Hadley Streit finished second, recording 21.95 meters (72 feet 0¼ inches), which is close to her own personal best.
In addition to her weight throw win, Nabwe also dominated the shot put, launching it to a distance of 17.16 meters (56 feet 3¾ inches) on her second attempt. This mark is just shy of her best indoors this season as the team prepares for the upcoming Big Ten Indoor Championships in Indianapolis next weekend.
The meet also showcased several talented unattached athletes. Hakeem Ford made a splash in his final indoor season competition, setting a meet record in the triple jump with a distance of 15.83 meters (51 feet 11¼ inches). If this were an outdoor mark, it would secure him a top five spot in Minnesota’s all-time records for triple jump.
Kostas Zaltos continued his strong performance, winning the men’s weight throw with a season-best throw of 23.88 meters (78 feet 4¼ inches). Zaltos delivered this mark on his second attempt and consistently outperformed the rest of the field.
Other notable victories for the Gophers included Aaron Charles in the 60 meters (6.75 seconds), Charlotte Lange in the 3000 meters (9:53.23), and Sam Snitker in the high jump (1.99 meters or 6 feet 6¼ inches). Charles Godfred and Alliyah McNeil also excelled in the long jump with marks of 7.84 meters (25 feet 8¾ inches) and 6.08 meters (19 feet 11½ inches), respectively. Additionally, Jak Urlacher and Lexy Berger shone in the pole vault with heights of 5.17 meters (16 feet 11½ inches) and 4.14 meters (13 feet 7 inches).
As the season progresses, the Maroon and Gold gear up for the upcoming Big Ten Indoor Championships from February 28 to March 1 in Indianapolis. Athletes who qualify will then move on to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on March 14-15.
