Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Pick Six newsletter!

Can you believe it? The Super Bowl is just three days away! Time seems to fly when you’re in New Orleans, where it feels like “time” is just a suggestion. If you’ve ever heard the saying “It’s five o’clock somewhere,” it probably originated right here in the French Quarter.
Today’s newsletter is packed! We’ll be giving out our own NFL awards before tonight’s NFL Honors and also ranking every Super Bowl ever played. Let’s dive in!
1. Our NFL Awards Before NFL Honors
Tonight, the NFL Honors ceremony will announce the major awards for the season. It starts at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the show will cover awards from MVP to Coach of the Year.
But first, our CBS Sports crew has voted for our own award winners, taking playoff performances into account. Here’s our unofficial list:
- Offensive Player of the Year: Saquon Barkley
- Defensive Rookie of the Year: Jared Verse
- Coach of the Year: Kevin O’Connell
- MVP: Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen (tie)
In our MVP vote, both Jackson and Allen received seven first-place votes. O’Connell narrowly beat Dan Quinn for Coach of the Year. For full details, check out our complete list of winners!
2. Ranking Every Super Bowl
Will Brinson has ranked all 58 Super Bowls, and his top ten include:
- Super Bowl XLIX: Patriots 28-24 Seahawks
- Super Bowl XLII: Giants 17-14 Patriots
- Super Bowl LII: Eagles 41-33 Patriots
- Super Bowl LI: Patriots 34-28 (OT) Falcons
- Super Bowl XIII: Steelers 35-31 Cowboys
- Super Bowl XXV: Giants 20-19 Bills
- Super Bowl XXIII: 49ers 20-16 Bengals
- Super Bowl XXXIV: Rams 23-16 Titans
- Super Bowl III: Jets 16-7 Colts
- Super Bowl XLIII: Steelers 27-23 Cardinals
The lowest ranked? Super Bowl XXIX: 49ers 49-26 Chargers.
With the Chiefs and Eagles matchup coming up, it’s interesting that their thrilling 38-35 game didn’t make the top 10; many saw it as a classic. Brinson rated it as the 12th best, which seems fair.
3. Mahomes vs. Fangio
As Super Bowl LIX approaches, a key matchup to watch is Patrick Mahomes versus the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio. Fangio is 0-8 against Mahomes. However, Fangio’s struggles aren’t all on him. Here are some points to consider:
- Fangio’s offenses averaged only 11.9 points per game in those matchups.
- Fangio faced QBs like Tua Tagovailoa and Drew Lock, making the matchups difficult.
- Mahomes has a lower completion rate against Fangio’s defense than in other games.

4. Potential Hall of Famers in Super Bowl LIX
With Hall of Fame announcements happening soon, let’s wonder which players from this Super Bowl could eventually make it to Canton. Our NFL historian has identified 13 candidates worth watching.
5. NFL Heads to Australia
Great news! The NFL will host a regular-season game in Australia in 2026. Here are the basics:
- The Rams will be the home team.
- The game will be in Melbourne, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which seats over 100,000.
- The opponent will be revealed later, but it could be from a list of notable teams.
- Expect the game to take place in Week 1, likely during the day in Melbourne, aligning with prime time in the U.S.
6. Quick NFL Updates
Here’s what’s happening in the NFL recently:
- Jaguars Hire Young Coordinator: The Jaguars have hired 29-year-old Grant Udinski as their offensive coordinator.
- Players Oppose 18-Game Schedule: NFLPA leaders don’t want to extend the season beyond 17 games.
- Possible Trade for Joe Milton: Patriots may try to trade QB Joe Milton now that they have their future with Drake Maye.
- Myles Garrett Seeks Contender: Garrett wants to play for a championship team and hinted at his trade preferences.
