Unveiling South Jordan’s Exciting Entertainment Lineup for This Year: More Than Just a New Ballpark!

South Jordan – Bumble, the lively mascot of the Salt Lake Bees, was a hit at the South Jordan Community Center, snapping pictures with local leaders.

At the second annual State of the City event on Wednesday night, the growing reputation of South Jordan as a vibrant spot for entertainment and recreation was on full display.

Mayor Dawn Ramsey, who has led the city since 2018, kicked off this exciting tradition last year. “It’s incredible to talk about all the amazing things happening in our city,” she shared with the crowd. “We’re in one of the most dynamic times in South Jordan’s history.”

This year’s event took a unique approach. Instead of a solo speech, Mayor Ramsey was joined by a panel of community leaders. Notable guests included Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson, Amanda Covington from Larry H. Miller Co., Beth Holbrook from the Utah Transit Authority, and former legislator Susan Pulsipher. They mainly discussed new developments coming to South Jordan, home to 85,000 residents.

A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the new baseball stadium, The Ballpark at America First Square. This stadium will become the new home for the Bees after they move from Salt Lake City. Covington confirmed it will be ready in time for the Bees’ first game on April 8, with a capacity of 8,000 – about half that of the old Smith’s Ballpark.

Covington described this phase as “our season of openings.” Exciting plans are in place: a new TRAX station on the Red Line will open in March, providing easy access to the stadium. This summer, the Miller company is set to host concerts in an outdoor plaza next to the ballpark, along with new restaurants. By midsummer, a Megaplex movie theater, featuring bowling and arcade games, will join the mix.

There are also plans for new apartments. Covington mentioned the development of at least 400 affordable units to support the community’s workforce housing needs later this year.

Looking ahead, a new performing arts center is coming to Daybreak’s downtown area. Backed by Salt Lake County and the Larry H. Miller Family Foundation, it’s expected to break ground in 2026 and open in 2028, featuring an 800-seat theater and a visual art gallery.

In collaboration with the Jordan School District, the county and city are working on a project to add more swim lanes to the South Jordan Recreation Center’s pool. This change aims to provide more swimming opportunities for high school athletes and older residents.

“What I love most about South Jordan is its amazing blend of history and modern growth,” said County Mayor Wilson. “Under Mayor Ramsey’s leadership, it’s clear that South Jordan is a regional draw.”
