Excitement filled the air when Activision revealed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 for the Switch. Unfortunately, recent announcements about Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 have dimmed that excitement due to some significant changes.

As reported by Kotaku, the new game won’t have the original Career Mode. This means players won’t have the freedom to explore the levels and complete challenges at their own pace. Instead, they will have just two minutes to finish as many challenges as possible.

There will still be a Free Roam mode, allowing players to wander through the levels, but challenges will be separate from this exploration. Developer Iron Galaxy is aiming for a more streamlined gameplay experience, trying to make the shift from THPS 3 to THPS 4 smoother.

This change has sparked disappointment among many fans. While the first three games are beloved, the levels in THPS 4 were designed for free roaming, and taking that away feels wrong.

We will hold off on our final opinion until we get our hands on the game in July. Here’s hoping that Iron Galaxy and Activision will listen to the community and possibly introduce a proper Career Mode later on.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 will be available on Nintendo Switch on 11th July 2025.
