Winners have been announced for the Lagos Has Talent: Climate Edition, an initiative led by the Lagos State Government and C40 Cities. This program encourages young artists and innovators to showcase their ideas for sustainability and climate action.

The grand finale took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, where youth creators, government officials, and climate advocates celebrated new ideas. This event highlighted the importance of youthful creativity in tackling climate issues.

The competition focused on youth aged 18 to 35 and featured categories like storytelling, poetry, music, and sustainable fashion. Over 100 applicants submitted their projects, and the top five finalists were recognized for their exceptional talent.

Progress Jesutomiwa Giwa, a visual artist and storyteller, won the grand prize of N5 million. First runner-up Ayomide Amusan received N3 million, while second runner-up Anita Nwokoji took home N2 million. The fourth and fifth place winners, Tiwalade Aderemi and Adebayo Razzak, each received N500,000.

A select panel of judges, including well-known climate advocates, evaluated the entries based on creativity and passion. Dignitaries at the event included officials from various environmental agencies. Michael Bankole from the Environment Ministry noted that all finalists would join a mentorship program to further their projects.

Special Adviser Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu highlighted that the initiative amplifies youth voices and supports innovative solutions for climate resilience in Lagos. After the finale, winners met with the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and were awarded additional cash as recognition for their passion.

This initiative has become a significant platform for youth-driven climate innovation. It not only rewards creativity but also encourages ongoing engagement in climate advocacy, with finalists joining the Ministry’s Climate Advocacy Team to promote green energy and resilience strategies.

In a recent study, over 70% of young Nigerians expressed a desire to address environmental issues, showing a strong commitment to climate action. Lagos Has Talent: Climate Edition thus stands as a powerful example of how youth can shape sustainable solutions for their communities.
