Recently, many Texas residents noticed rising prices for pet food. Some even wondered if food costs could ever force them to give up their furry friends.
In other news, Blue Ridge Beef is recalling nearly 6,000 pounds of its Natural Mix due to salmonella fears. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that the recall includes 2-pound logs of this product with the lot number N25/12/31 and UPC 854298001054. This action followed a test by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, which discovered salmonella contamination in the food.
This specific dog food was sold in several states, including Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, and Rhode Island.
Notably, this recall comes just months after another Blue Ridge Beef recall of 9,600 pounds of puppy food for the same reason. Salmonella poses health risks to both pets and humans. The FDA warns that people can get sick from handling contaminated pet products. Symptoms for humans can include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever.
According to Blue Ridge Beef’s website, they focus on providing nutritional quality raw food for pets. Their aim is to offer products that are healthy and beneficial for dogs and cats of all ages.
The company emphasizes that infected animals may show various symptoms such as lethargy or a decrease in appetite, and even healthy pets can carry the bacteria without visible signs. If your pet has eaten the recalled food and shows any symptoms, it’s important to contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
Blue Ridge Beef advises customers to either return or throw away any contaminated products. They also stress the importance of washing hands and sanitizing any surfaces, bowls, or containers that may have come into contact with the affected food.
Pet owners should always be mindful of their pets’ health and well-being, especially during recalls or food safety alerts. Keeping informed ensures that our furry friends remain safe and healthy.
