BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — In Bowling Green, a special event took place to support veterans. Bob Wilson, known as “Gunny,” along with the Kentucky Veterans Brigade, organized a food drive to give back to those who served our country. They handed out bags filled with non-perishable items to veterans as a way of saying thank you.

Gunny served in the Marines for 20 years and spent another seven years in the National Guard. He has seen action in Iraq, Afghanistan, and several other countries during his military career and as a contractor. His dedication to helping veterans remains strong.
The bags offered a variety of food, including dry goods like mac and cheese, ramen, canned vegetables, and meat. “It’s everything they might need to get by,” Gunny noted. This food drive is crucial, especially now. According to Feeding America, one in nine working veterans faces food insecurity. About 1.2 million low-income veterans rely on SNAP benefits to help make ends meet.
Gunny understands the struggles many veterans face when adjusting to life after service. “When veterans come back, often they have lost a lot. We want to give back and support them,” he said. This initiative is a reminder of the importance of caring for those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
Wayne Boyd, another volunteer, shared his thoughts: “It feels great to help out. The world needs to be a better place, and giving back is one way to do that.”
The food drive is open until Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. central time, giving more veterans a chance to receive support and generosity from their community.
