Washington State’s women’s golf team is gearing up for the 29th Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Lihu’e, Kaua’i. The tournament runs from Monday to Wednesday at the stunning Ocean Course at Hokuala.
The course has a par of 72 and stretches over 6,039 yards. Players will tackle 18 holes each day, starting at 12:30 PM PT on Monday and Tuesday, and noon PT for the final round on Wednesday.
Team Lineup
Washington State’s lineup includes:
- Kaitlyn Helm
- Agnes Brink
- Grace Rubelsky
- Hannah Harrison
- Anya Cedo
Strong Competition Ahead
A total of 19 teams will compete at this year’s event, including Baylor, BYU, and Japan’s Osaka Gakuin. With such a diverse field, the competition promises to be intense.
Recent Performance
The team recently finished ninth at The Blessings Collegiate in Arkansas, where freshmen Kaitlyn Helm and junior Sara Pineros stood out. Helm’s three birdies earned her a solid 13th place finish, while Pineros climbed ten spots to tie for 28th.
In earlier tournaments, Helm also impressed with her strong performance at the Badger Invitational, tying for third place. Research shows that young athletes often bring dynamism to their teams, and Helm’s results are a prime example. In fact, according to a 2023 study by the NCAA, freshman athletes significantly contribute to team success when provided with strong support systems.
A Return to Coaching
The program welcomed back Darcy Habgood as an assistant coach this past summer. Habgood is not just a former player; she contributed significantly to the team during her college years, even participating in the LPGA Q-School after graduation. Her unique experience and insights will surely benefit the team.
The Buzz on Social Media
Fans are already buzzing about the tournament online, with many expressing excitement about the chance to see the team shine in Hawaii. It’s a testament to the growing popularity of women’s golf, particularly among younger demographics.
