Mumbai: Indian Railways has just launched the third Amrit Bharat Express, a significant step forward in modernizing train travel in India. This new service connects Saharsa in Bihar to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged it off via video conference from Bihar on April 24.

This train marks the second Amrit Bharat Express for Bihar and is Mumbai’s first, highlighting the need for better rail links between eastern India and the financial capital.
Prior to this, Indian Railways launched trains connecting Darbhanga to Anand Vihar and Malda Town to SMVT Bengaluru, showcasing a commitment to improved rail connectivity.
The Amrit Bharat Express aims to offer a premium yet affordable travel experience for middle-class and underprivileged passengers, making long rides more accessible and comfortable.
A New Standard for Train Travel
This train promises a streamlined travel experience by blending native technology and modern design. Fully aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the train features Indian-made coaches, providing cutting-edge travel at reasonable prices.
It flaunts an eye-catching design with an emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency. Each aspect, from mobile charging ports to upgraded toilets, is designed to keep the comfort of travelers in mind.
Enhanced Safety Features
Safety is a critical focus for Indian Railways, and the Amrit Bharat Express raises the bar with innovative safety measures. It includes crash tubes in couplers, EP-assisted braking systems for quick stops, and fully sealed gangways equipped with vacuum evacuation systems. Notably, fire detection systems have been installed for non-AC coaches, enhancing passenger protection.
Another innovative feature is the semi-automatic couplers that reduce noise and jerks when coaches connect or disconnect. The design of deformation tubes in couplers helps minimize the effects of potential collisions, significantly boosting safety.
Speed, Comfort, and Accessibility
With a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour, the Amrit Bharat Express is engineered for efficiency, featuring engines at both ends for better energy use and stability. The coaches are packed with modern amenities like foldable snack tables, mobile holders, and air-spring bogies for a smooth ride.
The train also considers inclusivity, with special features for differently-abled passengers, accessible toilets, and comfortable seating for long journeys. Fast mobile charging ports and pantry cars ensure convenience and quality dining on board, along with an innovative flushing system to maintain cleanliness.
The Amrit Bharat Express symbolizes a new chapter in Indian train travel, focusing on sustainability, safety, and passenger comfort. With its energy-efficient systems and modern design, it sets a high standard for future rail services in the country.
Recent surveys reveal that 76% of travelers prioritize safety while selecting a train service, underscoring the relevance of these advances. As public transport evolves, trains like the Amrit Bharat Express will become crucial for economic growth, connecting different regions and boosting tourism.
This leap in India’s railway system not only aims for speed and comfort but also enhances accessibility and takes a big step toward a greener future.
