LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – This week, we have some restaurants facing issues and a few that are shining stars. Let’s dive into the details.
Potbelly Sandwich Shop at 6616 Milwaukee had a total of 19 violations. Here are some key concerns:
- Several food items, including chicken, lettuce, hummus, tomatoes, and boiled eggs, were stored above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees.
- Meatballs weren’t kept at the required temperature of at least 135 degrees.
- Some chicken was past its use-by date.
- No thermometer was available in the reach-in cooler to monitor temperatures.
- Tongs were found on a hand sink, which is only for hand washing to avoid cross-contamination.
- Food containers and lids were damaged and needed repairs.
- The facility was using a walk-in freezer and a reach-in cooler that weren’t maintaining proper temperatures (the freezer was at 46 degrees, and items in the cooler were at 49 degrees).
During the inspection, most issues were corrected on site.
Dirk’s at 1636 13th recorded 16 violations. Some major violations included:
- Egg wash was stored above ready-to-eat peppers.
- Raw bacon was placed over ready-to-eat carrots and Brussels sprouts.
- A Bloody Mary mix had passed its use-by date.
- An employee turned off the faucet at the hand sink with bare hands, which can lead to cross-contamination.
- The sanitizing solution wasn’t strong enough, and testing devices for it were expired.
- Some spray bottles lacked proper labeling.
All of Dirk’s violations were corrected during the inspection as well.
Now, let’s celebrate some success stories. Here are this week’s top performers:
- Sunflower Nutrition at 1102 Slide
- McDonald’s at 5201 4th
- Panda Express at 5806 19th
These establishments have upheld high standards in food safety and service. Well done!
