WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. – The Church of the Good Shepherd has been a beacon of hope for many in the area, running a food pantry in partnership with the Mercer County Food Bank for a whole year now.
This week, they celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking an important milestone for the community.
Rebecca Page, the executive director of the Mercer County Food Bank, spoke about the initiative. She explained that their goal is to support food pantries that help those facing food insecurity, especially in underserved areas. “We are so thankful to the Church of the Good Shepherd for stepping up last year. Now, many neighbors have access to healthy food,” she said.
Father Glenn Whitman initiated this project after discovering the high rates of food insecurity among local residents. He noted, “This has been a blessing not just for our neighbors but for our parish family as well.”
The food pantry is available on the first Wednesday of each month from 3 to 4:30 p.m. If you need food assistance in West Middlesex or nearby, you can call the parish at 724-528-3539 for more details.
