Jess emphasizes that simple choices often lead to issues, such as consuming fresh fruits or salads washed in unfiltered water. Regular handwashing, drinking bottled water, and avoiding uncooked foods are some precautions that can help travelers stay healthy abroad. Experts from World Travel Protection echo this advice, recommending that travelers choose well-cooked foods and busy restaurants, which are less likely to have contaminated dishes.
The interest in Asia over Europe is also linked to current global events. Ongoing conflicts in the Middle East make many Australians wary of flying through hubs like Dubai and Qatar. According to travel expert Angus Kidman, this uncertainty has dampened enthusiasm for European travel. Data from Booking.com backs this trend, showing that 22 of the top 30 destinations Australians searched for in July were in the Asia-Pacific region.
Bali remains a favorite, with popular areas like Seminyak and Ubud leading the list. Recent statistics show a notable increase in travel interest: purchases for eSIMs in Japan jumped 27.5% from 2025 to 2026, with Korea and the Philippines seeing similar rises. Cost is another key factor—traveling to Asia is seen as more affordable, thanks to shorter flights and cheaper daily expenses compared to Europe.
