Why SpaceX Canceled a Satellite Launch Just 11 Seconds Before Liftoff: What You Need to Know

On July 21, SpaceX had to abort the launch of two satellites right before liftoff. The Falcon 9 rocket was scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida at 5:27 p.m. EDT. However, just 11 seconds before takeoff, the countdown stopped.

SpaceX extended the launch window by another 90 minutes but eventually decided to postpone. They tweeted, “Standing down from today’s launch of the @SES_Satellites O3b mPOWER mission and now targeting tomorrow, July 22 for liftoff. Vehicle and payload remain healthy.” At that time, the reason for the cancellation was not explained.

The next launch window is set for July 22 at 5:12 p.m. EDT. Fans can watch the liftoff live on SpaceX’s website and X account, starting about 15 minutes before the launch.

These satellites are part of SES’s mPOWER constellation, which includes eight satellites already launched by SpaceX. This network aims to improve internet access globally, especially in remote areas. Though it’s operational, it will grow to 13 satellites in total.
