Earlier this month, food lovers in Utah celebrated the possibility of local restaurants being featured in the Michelin Guide. Some might even earn prestigious Michelin stars, which recognize exceptional quality, creativity, and service.
The Michelin Guide is globally renowned for highlighting top dining experiences. Currently, Utah establishments are set to be included in “The Michelin Guide Southwest,” which covers restaurants in Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. This is a big deal for Utah’s culinary scene.
While we don’t know which spots will be honored in the 2026 edition, the Wasatch Front is home to talented chefs creating remarkable dishes. It’ll be a challenge for inspectors to choose which restaurants shine the brightest.
If I could pick a few places that deserve recognition, here’s what I’d suggest:
MaxiMart Sandwiches: Years ago, this gas station in Provo served sandwiches that were out of this world. The perfect blend of red wine vinegar, olive oil, and fresh ingredients made for an unforgettable taste. Pregnant cravings can be strong, and I once found myself yearning for a sandwich that hasn’t existed for two decades. Eating one while speed boating on Utah Lake—now that’s a three-star experience.
Chain Restaurant First Bites: Remember waiting for a new franchise to open? There’s something special about those first bites. It’s even better when you share the moment with other excited patrons who have all waited in line. Everyone has a story, and that thrill of anticipation makes the meal taste even more delicious.
Cheesecake Factory in Vegas: In the ’90s, people would drive for hours just to eat at The Cheesecake Factory. They didn’t go solely for the cheesecake; their obsession was over the lettuce wraps! If that isn’t a sign of iconic status, I don’t know what is. By the Michelin rating standards, that place would’ve easily earned a three-star.
Dippin’ Dots after Free Fall: Thrilling rides bring unforgettable memories. After conquering the Free Fall at Seven Peaks Water Park, nothing felt more satisfying than a cup of Dippin’ Dots. That feeling of satisfaction after facing fears? Definitely star-worthy.
Cafe Rio and Costa Vida: These two chains have served classic pork salads loved by many for years. Whether you prefer one over the other, the consistent cravings for their signature cilantro lime rice showcase their lasting impact on our taste buds.
It’s remarkable how food can leave lasting memories and create connections. Although Michelin evaluators have their criteria, restaurants that hold a special place in our hearts should also be recognized. After all, great food experiences enrich our lives, and that’s what truly matters.
