MUSIC
Join pianist Zee Zee as she performs Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra this weekend. You can catch her solo on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. or Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Robinson Center Performance Hall in Little Rock. The concert will also feature pieces by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and William Dawson.
Zee Zee will stick around for a chamber concert on Tuesday at 7 p.m., where she will collaborate with the Rockefeller Quartet to perform Amy Beach’s Piano Quintet. This event takes place at the Stella Boyle Smith Music Center in East Village, Little Rock.
If you’re in the mood for folk rock, check out the Ozark Mountain Daredevils as they kick off their farewell tour at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the University of Arkansas-Pulaski TC Charts Theater in North Little Rock.
On Saturday at 6:30 p.m., the Listeso String Quartet will present “Vivaldi’s Four Seasons by Candlelight” at the Albert Pike Masonic Center, featuring all four seasons composed by Vivaldi along with works from Massenet, Richter, and Piazzolla. This concert is family-friendly, with age restrictions for younger attendees.
The Sympatico Percussion Group will perform at the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., showcasing a blend of drumming styles and original pieces.
Also at UA Little Rock this Saturday, you can witness the Metropolitan Opera Arkansas District Laffont Competition, which starts at 1 p.m. Nearly 30 talented singers from across the country will compete for a chance to reach the regional finals in St. Louis. Admission is free!
If you’d prefer a cinematic experience, catch Giuseppe Verdi’s “Aida” live in HD at the Movie Tavern at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, featuring soprano Angel Blue in the lead role.
THEATER
This weekend, the Weekend Theater in Little Rock opens “How Black Mothers Say I Love You.” The play follows a mother who, after leaving her daughters in Jamaica, is now facing a health crisis decades later. Performances run at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Children’s Theatre presents “An Unlikely Hero” on Saturday and Sunday. This world-premiere production is a fun and engaging story about a young boy discovering his identity at a school for heroes.
At Murry’s Dinner Playhouse, enjoy the comedic play “Ripcord,” where two roommates engage in escalating pranks that lead to unexpected twists. Showtimes are available throughout the weekend with buffet dining before each show.
ART AND EXHIBITS
Don’t miss “Lighter than the childhood home” by Iris Eichenberg at the Brad Cushman Gallery, showcasing thought-provoking sculptures until March 9. Admission is free.
At the Argenta Library, you can check out the “3D” exhibit by sculptor Andy Huss, open until February 7.
The Arkansas Arts Council’s “Small Works on Paper” exhibition is also on display until February 16, featuring 35 Arkansas artists and their unique pieces.
Lastly, visit the Clinton Presidential Center for “Commanding the Screen,” showcasing portrayals of U.S. presidents in film and television, available until March 23.
