A poignant prayer meet was held at the Shanmukhananda Auditorium in Mumbai to honor the unparalleled legacy of Padma Vibhushan Ustad Zakir Hussain. Organized by his household, together with his brothers Ustad Fazal Qureshi and Ustad Taufiq Qureshithe December 27 night introduced collectively musicians, admirers, and shut pals to pay tribute to the legendary tabla maestro.
The gathering started with a soulful Taal Pranam carried out by Ustad Fazal Qureshi, Sabir Khan, and college students, adopted by a Kabir bhajan rendered by Devaki Pandit. Anchored by Yogesh Samsi, the occasion featured transferring speeches by luminaries like N Rajam, Suresh Talwalkar, Louis Banks, and Javed Akhtar, who mirrored on Ustad Zakir Hussain’s transformative contributions to international music and his capacity to attach throughout cultures.

Javed Akhtar famous, “There was no gap between his thought and creativity. What he felt simultaneously reflected in his creation.”
The prayer meet additionally included a video tribute by Kunal Kapoor, encapsulating Ustad Zakir Hussain’s illustrious profession and his profound influence on music lovers worldwide. Shri Ashish Shelar, Minister of Culture, shared a private reminiscence, recalling Zakir Hussain’s humility, “Meeting Zakir Bhai was humble. His magical fingers and modesty left an indelible mark on my life.”
In an emotional speech, Ustad Fazal Qureshi stated, “Zakir Bhai’s untimely passing has reminded us of life’s unpredictability, leaving us in grief. His influence inspired not only percussionists but musicians across genres. His legacy will continue to resonate worldwide.”
Ustad Taufiq Qureshi added, “Zakir Bhai will always be remembered as a transformative force in music. His roles as a brother, mentor, and inspiration will forever guide us.”
