The Centre for Environment, Sustainability and Climate Justice, established by GNLU, is a vital space for studying and discussing environmental issues. It aims to connect various stakeholders—from grassroots communities to government officials and industry experts—to foster open dialogue on pressing environmental matters. Recently, the centre hosted the 21st IUCN AEL Annual Colloquium, marking a significant event as it was the first of its kind in the Indian Subcontinent.
One standout initiative is the ICCJSE conference. This gathering brings together researchers, policymakers, and judges to share insights on climate change and sustainability. It’s more than just presentations; there will be roundtable discussions and breakout sessions over three days. The focus is on creating a platform for real conversations and solutions.
The conference theme, “Rethinking Environmental Law and Policy: A Call for Action and Accountability in Challenging Times,” sets the stage for various important sub-themes, including:
- Sustainability through Technology
- Human Rights and Environmental Balance
- Health Impacts of Climate Change
- Corporate Responsibility in Climate Action
According to recent reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the effects of climate change are intensifying and impacting health, with vulnerable populations suffering the most. This emphasizes the need for discussions around how climate policies can ensure equity and justice.
To encourage participation, the conference will recognize the best research efforts. Awards include INR 25,000 for the winner and INR 15,000 and INR 10,000 for runners-up. Selected papers may also be published in the inaugural issue of GCESCJ’s Journal.
Authors interested in sharing their research can submit abstracts of no more than 500 words by May 30, 2025. It’s worth noting that communication of acceptance will occur by June 5, 2025, giving authors a clear timeline.
Registration fees are set to make it accessible, with rates at USD 100 for international professionals and INR 1,000 for Indian participants. Various accommodations will be available at a subsidized rate, ensuring that attendees can focus on the critical discussions taking place.
The conference not only aims to address current environmental policies but also seeks to understand historical context and user reactions to these changes, reflecting a growing global awareness of climate issues.
