On October 3, 2025, Best Buy Bones, Inc., based in Mount Morris, Michigan, announced a recall of four lots of Nature’s Own Pet Chews Bully Bites. These treats come in 16 oz. bags with a Best Buy date of September 2027. The recall stems from concerns about possible contamination with Salmonella, a harmful bacteria.
Salmonella can pose risks to both pets and humans. Pets consuming contaminated treats might show symptoms like lethargy, diarrhea (which may be bloody), vomiting, and fever. Even healthy pets can carry the bacteria and spread it to others. If your dog has eaten these treats and displays any of these signs, it’s essential to consult a vet.
For humans, Salmonella can lead to symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever. In some cases, it can cause serious infections. Individuals who experience these symptoms after handling the recalled treats should seek medical attention.
A total of 34 bags were distributed in Minnesota and sold in retail stores across Wisconsin after September 23, 2025. The specific lots involved are 19379, 19380, 19381, and 19382.
The potential health risk came to light when FDA testing on September 11, 2025, revealed the presence of Salmonella in the products. The company has suspended production and distribution while investigations are ongoing.
If you have purchased any of the affected Bully Bites, return them to the store or safely dispose of them where children and animals can’t access them. Remember to wash hands thoroughly after handling any affected products.
