Google is set to launch the Pixel Watch 4, and just before that, they’re updating the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 with Wear OS 6.
The update, labeled BP3A.250905.014.W3, is rolling out for both Bluetooth/Wi-Fi and LTE models. However, the original Pixel Watch won’t receive this update just yet, though it should get Wear OS 6 by October 2025, as updates are guaranteed for that long. For now, the company only mentioned the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 in their release notes.
This follows the last update in June. Google switched to quarterly updates for the Pixel Watch, but nothing came out in September. To check for the update, users can go to Settings > System > System updates, tapping the “Your watch is up to date” message a few times to start the download. For faster access, turning off Bluetooth may help.
Google has also released factory images for the Pixel Watch 4, codenamed “menari.” Users will need a special debug adapter to flash OTA images, which Google is providing by invitation only.
The Wear OS 6 update brings some exciting features. It includes a full Material 3 redesign, with new lockscreen keypads, Quick Settings, and notifications. Now, the theme of your watch face influences the color of notifications and tiles, making your watch feel more personalized.
Additionally, there’s a fresh look for the Alarm, Stopwatch, and Timer apps as part of this update. Users are encouraged to visit the Play Store for any fresh app updates after installation.
Interestingly, even though Wear OS 6 doesn’t introduce new watch faces from the Pixel Watch 4, the existing features are still quite impressive.
In recent surveys, many users have shown increased interest in smartwatches that integrate health features, suggesting that connectivity and wellness tracking remain top priorities for consumers. According to a recent report by Statista, more than 40% of smartwatches sold worldwide are now equipped with health monitoring capabilities.
As technology continues to advance, wearables are becoming essential not just for notifications but also for enhancing everyday health and wellness. Whether for tracking workouts or managing stress levels, the future of smartwatches seems promising and aligned with user needs.
