Mizzou soccer’s Morgan Schaefer, a talented midfielder and redshirt sophomore from Bentonville, Arkansas, has been honored with a spot on the 2025 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team.
Schaefer stands out not just for her skills on the field but also for her commitment to helping others. She has dedicated over 170 hours to community service, working with various organizations. This showcases her compassion and drive to support those in need.
As a key member of Mizzou’s Med-Letes group, Schaefer connects athletics with the medical field. She encourages her fellow student-athletes to get involved in community service. One of her noteworthy contributions is the relaunch of Caleb’s Pitch. This initiative, a collaboration between Mizzou Athletics and MU Children’s Hospital, allows young patients to express themselves through syringe art, honoring a child named Caleb who lost his battle with cancer.
Beyond Med-Letes and Caleb’s Pitch, Schaefer plays a vital role at The Crossing Church as a preschool team leader. She also provides care to hospice patients through Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia and participates in outreach programs like Think Orange Ministry and P4H Global.
Statistics show that student-athletes like Schaefer who engage in community work tend to report higher levels of satisfaction and mental well-being. Research indicates that community involvement not only enriches the lives of those being helped but also fosters a sense of purpose and belonging in volunteers.
As the Tigers prepare for their final regular season match on Sunday, October 26, against Auburn, it’s clear that Schaefer’s impact goes far beyond the soccer field.
