Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing a prison term of approximately three years, according to federal inmate records. He received a 50-month sentence earlier this month due to two counts related to interstate prostitution. The time he spent awaiting trial this summer will count towards his sentence, setting his expected release for May 8, 2028.
Combs was found not guilty of more severe accusations like racketeering and sex trafficking, maintaining his innocence throughout the process. He has been in custody since his arrest in September 2024.
Prosecutors initially sought a much longer sentence of 11 years. Given this is Combs’ first conviction, the judge imposed a $500,000 fine, along with five years of supervised release after his prison term. Combs’ lawyers plan to appeal the ruling.
The trial lasted eight weeks, where prosecutors claimed Combs exploited his status in the entertainment world to manipulate women, allegedly involving them in sexual acts with paid workers. Notably, his former girlfriend, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, testified against him during the proceedings.
The jury didn’t support the charges of racketeering but did find him guilty of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits crossing state lines for prostitution. Evidence included bank records showing he arranged for escort services that featured “freak-offs,” described as extreme drug-fueled sex parties. Although Combs’ defense acknowledged his past violence towards women, they framed the case more as domestic abuse than sex trafficking.
Before sentencing, Combs wrote a letter expressing remorse. He stated he had “lost his way” due to drugs and excess, apologizing for the hurt he caused. Judge Arun Subramanian emphasized the responsibility that comes with Combs’ influence, urging him to use his “second chance” wisely.
Upon release, Combs will be monitored with regular check-ins from a probation officer. He will need to maintain sobriety, submit to drug testing, and participate in outpatient mental health and domestic violence programs.
