Hyderabad has some exciting news! Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, the Indian arm of the Volkswagen Group, has just hit a major milestone. They’ve produced over 2 million cars locally in India. This comes as Skoda celebrates 25 years in the country, a journey that started back in 2001 with the launch of the Skoda Octavia.
The first manufacturing plant was set up in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, laying the groundwork for Skoda’s growth in India. Piyush Arora, the CEO of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, emphasized that this achievement isn’t just about numbers. It shows their commitment to the Indian market, which they see as a vital part of the future of mobility and innovation.
Currently, Skoda makes several models, including cars under the Volkswagen and Audi brands, at their plants in Chakan and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Their recent success can be attributed to the INDIA 2.0 strategy, which has greatly boosted their sales. In fact, more than 500,000 of those 2 million cars were sold under this new approach, including popular models like the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
It’s worth noting that in just the last 3.5 years, they sold over 500,000 new units. The introduction of the Skoda Slavia and Kushaq in 2022 played a key role in achieving the best annual sales figures for the group. This year, they’ve already outperformed their 2022 numbers, particularly thanks to strong demand for the Skoda Kylaq, a subcompact SUV launched earlier this year.
Additionally, exports are looking good too, with over 700,000 units shipped out from India. This growth reflects not just Skoda’s strong presence but also reflects changing consumer preferences in the automotive market.
