The Nebraska volleyball team has been named the No. 1 seed for the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship. They’ll host the first two rounds at John Cook Arena in the Bob Devaney Sports Center this Friday and Saturday.
This marks Nebraska’s 44th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and they’re hosting the first round for the 40th time. The team kicks off the tournament on Friday, December 5, at 7 p.m. against Long Island, who finished their season at 20-8 and won the Northeast Conference. Earlier that day at 4:30 p.m., San Diego (25-4) will face Kansas State (17-9).
Tickets for the matches go on sale Sunday night at Huskers.com/Tickets. Fans can watch the games on ESPN+, and audio coverage will be available through the Huskers Radio Network and the Huskers app.
Nebraska, Kentucky, Texas, and Pittsburgh are the top seeds in the tournament. If the Huskers advance, they could host an NCAA Regional from December 11-14 at the Devaney Center. In their region, they will compete against Louisville, Texas A&M, and Kansas.
The Huskers will meet Long Island for the second time, having previously won their last encounter in the NCAA Tournament in 2023.
Nebraska has had a stellar season with a perfect 30-0 record, only dropping seven sets overall, including just one in Big Ten play. This achievement marks their first unbeaten conference season since 2004. They secured their 37th conference title, adding to their legacy.
The Huskers have a strong record at home, with a 60-match win streak, which is the longest active streak in the nation. They’ve also won 26 consecutive NCAA Tournament matches at home, setting a school record.
Interestingly, Nebraska’s success reflects a growing trend in collegiate sports, with schools investing in training and facilities. Recent surveys show that women’s sports, especially volleyball, have gained significant attention and resources, leading to increased competitiveness at the national level.
This year’s NCAA Championship is scheduled for December 18-21 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, where the Huskers previously clinched the title in 2017.
