Transformative Million Gift from Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott Boosts Lincoln University’s Future

MacKenzie Scott, one of the wealthiest women in the world thanks to her Amazon shares, recently donated $25 million to Lincoln University. This marks her second major contribution to the historically Black college, following a $20 million gift in 2020.

Scott’s donations are part of her broader effort to support historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Lincoln University officials expressed gratitude, noting that this generous gift shows her trust in the university’s mission and leadership. President Brenda A. Allen highlighted the importance of HBCUs, stating that Lincoln was founded to help African Americans succeed.

This latest donation will be used for scholarships and various initiatives at Lincoln University. Notably, Scott’s contributions to education have exceeded $1 billion just this year, benefitting other institutions like Bowie State and Morgan State universities.

Interestingly, this financial boost comes shortly after a tragic incident during Lincoln’s homecoming event in October, which resulted in violence and loss of life. The community is now hopeful that Scott’s support will help foster a safer and more empowered environment for students.

With the substantial funds being directed toward HBCUs, there’s a growing conversation on social media about the role of philanthropy in education. Many users have expressed appreciation for Scott’s ongoing support, which brings much-needed resources to underfunded institutions.
