EDMONTON, Alberta – The U.S. Women’s National Team finished the 2025 Rivalry Series on a high note, beating Canada 4-1 in the final game at Rogers Place. This victory means the U.S. swept the series with a perfect record of 4-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L).
“We anticipated a strong start from them and were able to hold our ground,” said John Wroblewski, the team’s head coach. “This solid performance gives us plenty to consider as we look ahead to Milan.”
The first period was an intense back-and-forth affair. The U.S. had two power-play opportunities, but the standout was goalie Aerin Frankel, who made crucial saves to keep the scoreline tied despite being outshot 12-6.
Team USA finally broke the deadlock early in the second period. With just under 15 minutes left, Abbey Murphy created a distraction in front of the net, allowing a point shot from Caroline Harvey to find its way in, deflecting off a Canadian defender’s skate.
Canada quickly countered with a goal from Brianne Jenner, leveling the score at 1-1 just a minute later. But the U.S. responded with a goal from Laila Edwards, who found the net thanks to a smart pass from Taylor Heise.
Later, Hilary Knight added to the lead with a sneaky shot that slipped through Canada’s goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens. Knight sealed the game with an empty-netter, making it 4-1 with just 1:37 left.
