At just 25 years old, Steele has faced cancer multiple times. Diagnosed in 2019, he bravely fought through surgeries and treatments, even returning to the field after a major surgery in 2023 that involved a lengthy recovery. Despite these challenges, he managed to play nine games this season, showing resilience with 16 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup.
Bodnar, a defensive back from Liberty, battled severe brain inflammation due to a virus. This illness left him unable to walk and required a week-long hospital stay. After regaining his health, Bodnar stepped up this season, starting all 12 games and making 44 tackles.
Quarterback Byrum Brown from South Florida also made headlines this year. After a tough 2024 season ended abruptly due to a broken leg, he worked tirelessly in rehab to return. His determination paid off as he led the nation in total offense this season, with impressive stats of 347.2 yards per game and 42 touchdowns.
