AptarGroup, Inc., based in Crystal Lake, Illinois, is making waves in environmental responsibility. For the second year in a row, it’s been recognized by the non-profit CDP for its outstanding efforts on climate change, landing a spot on the coveted “A List.” This recognition places Aptar in the top 4% of nearly 20,000 companies evaluated by CDP.
What’s behind this achievement? Aptar is not just talking about climate issues; they’re taking action. The company has committed to reducing its emissions and advancing a low-carbon economy. This year, over 22,000 companies shared their environmental data with CDP, covering more than half of the global market capitalization.
“We’re thrilled to be recognized again,” said Stephan B. Tanda, Aptar’s President and CEO. “This reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovative products that improve lives for consumers and patients.”
Aptar has set formal targets to cut its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5°C by 2030. They’ve also prioritized renewable energy, with validated targets by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). Their efforts are supported by Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) in the U.S. and Europe, enhancing the use of local renewable energy sources.
Beth Holland, Aptar’s Chief Sustainability Officer, emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability: “Sharing our progress openly helps show meaningful reductions in carbon emissions. Our journey towards sustainability will continue through collaboration and improvement.”
CDP uses a thorough methodology to score companies from A to D-, looking at their awareness and management of environmental risks, as well as best practices in sustainability. As part of their commitment, Aptar also enhanced its risk disclosures to align with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
Historically, corporate transparency on climate impact has evolved significantly. In 2000, when CDP first began its work, very few companies disclosed this information. Fast forward to today, and more than 24,000 organizations are participating, illustrating a growing trend towards accountability.
As climate change remains a pressing concern globally, Aptar’s recognition serves as a reminder of the need for companies across industries to step up their efforts. Whether it’s through innovations in renewable energy or setting clear emissions goals, the call for action is loud and clear.
