George Mason Men’s Tennis Faces Tough Loss Against Delaware
George Mason University’s men’s tennis team faced a challenging match against the University of Delaware on March 4. The game ended with a 4-0 sweep by Delaware at the BRSC.
In singles play, Delaware’s Tobey Lock put on a strong performance at the top spot, managing to beat Deniz Okyay in a tight three-set match: 3-6, 7-6 (7-1), 10-7. At No. 2 singles, Federico Garbero secured a straight-sets victory over Monil Lotlikar, winning 6-3, 6-3.
Itamar Tapiro fought hard at No. 3 singles, overcoming Ekansh Kumar with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. Finally, Mason Robins rounded out the sweep for Delaware with a solid 6-2, 6-3 win against Adria Franco at No. 6 singles.
Due to the match’s outcome, the contests at No. 5 and No. 4 singles between Pere Prat and Edgar Vilain, and Niza Simunyola and Euan Mackenzie, were left unfinished. Prat was leading 6-3, 5-7, 0-2, while Mackenzie was up 7-5, 6-7 (7-3), 4-6.
After this match, the Patriots look forward to the Hilton Head Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C., starting on March 8 against Hardin-Simmons University at 3 p.m.
