Reddit is discontinuing r/all, a popular feed that showcases trending posts from across the platform. This change is part of their goal to simplify the experience and customize the Home feed for users.
Before the change, Reddit had two ways to see trending content: r/all and r/popular. While r/all allowed users to see a broader range of posts, r/popular focused on more filtered content. Recently, Reddit removed r/all from their mobile apps as part of an experiment. In February, they confirmed the experiment’s end and ultimately decided to eliminate r/all entirely.
Now, links to r/all redirect users to their Home feed, and it no longer appears on the sidebar, either on the web or mobile app. However, users can still access r/all by visiting the old Reddit site.
The recent shift reflects Reddit CEO Steve Huffman’s vision to move towards greater personalization. He indicated that the shift from r/popular is in the works, aiming to enhance user-specific feeds. Clarissa Colmenero, a Reddit spokesperson, mentioned that adjustments to r/popular could happen over time to improve the global feed experience, especially for new users.
Alongside these changes, Reddit also announced new privacy settings for teens. Starting in early April, users under 18 won’t be able to have followers, and their profiles will be hidden by default. This move aligns with increased focus on online safety and privacy for younger users.
