The University of New Mexico (UNM) is making some big changes. Soon, various policy manuals will merge into a single, easy-to-use cloud-based portal. This should lighten the load for anyone searching for policy information.
Set to launch by April 10, the integration will include several important policy documents. These are the Regents’ Policy Manual, University Administrative Policies and Procedures Manual, and various policies from the Health Sciences Center and UNM Hospital. This move is all about convenience. Instead of hunting for policy guidelines in multiple places, users will be able to find everything in one spot.
Sidney Mason-Coon, the UNM Policy Officer, emphasizes that the switch to the PolicyStat platform has made this integration possible. “This new system is designed with users in mind,” she explains. Both the UNM Policy Office and the Health Sciences Center Policy Office websites will link to the new portal, streamlining access for faculty, staff, and students.
Another aspect of this change aligns with the UNM 2040 Strategic Framework, an ambitious plan for the university’s future. This plan highlights the goal of improving integration across all university functions.
Mason-Coon believes that having a single policy location aligns with the idea of “One University,” making it easier for everyone to see how their roles contribute to the bigger picture. “Our goal is to create a navigable environment where consistent guidelines support collaboration,” she adds.
Accessibility is also a priority. The new platform will comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, ensuring that users with different abilities can easily find and understand policies. This is important as new federal accessibility standards are set to roll out soon.
Gail Hammer, the HSC Policy Manager, highlights that well-organized policies strengthen the operational health of any organization. She notes that having all university policies in one easily accessible location will enhance compliance and overall effectiveness.
The user-friendly features of PolicyStat include intuitive search tools, mobile responsiveness, and quick links to specific policy sections. This makes finding information straightforward, and it even tracks policy revisions and approvals.
On social media, users have reacted positively to this change, expressing eagerness for a more efficient way to access important information. Many have shared their thoughts using the hashtag #OneUniversity, signaling a community ready to embrace this new approach.
As the rollout approaches, the UNM community looks forward to a simpler, more cohesive experience. For queries, individuals can reach out to the UNM Policy Office or the HSC Policy Office via email.
