DENVER – Sam Harris, a talented forward for the University of Denver hockey team, is set to return for his senior season in 2026-27. Harris, hailing from San Diego, California, currently leads all active players in college hockey with an impressive 52 goals over 128 games. He has also contributed 39 assists during his time with the Pioneers, helping the team clinch two national championships in 2024 and 2026.
Last season, Harris had a standout performance, tying for second in team scoring and matching his personal best with 35 points. His impressive stats include 15 goals, making it his third straight season with at least 14 goals. He also set a new record for assists with 20. Notably, his 132 shots on goal were second in the team, trailing only Eric Pohlkamp, who led the NCAA with 188.
During the 2026 NCAA Tournament, Harris shone brightly, racking up four points from two goals and two assists across four games. He earned a spot on the NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team after a solid showing against Cornell and Western Michigan. His contributions continued in Denver’s dramatic double-overtime win over Michigan in the Frozen Four.
In terms of consistency, Harris matched a personal feat with a nine-game point streak, recording 10 points during that stretch. He also enjoyed a seven-game assist streak, showcasing his all-around skills on the ice.
Specifically against Arizona State, Harris had an outstanding record last season, scoring four goals and adding three assists in four games. His 50th career goal came against ASU, making him just the 63rd player in the program’s history to hit that milestone. He has played in 128 of a possible 131 games and marked his 100th career appearance in a high-profile match against Minnesota.
Harris’s journey included two successful junior seasons with the Sioux Falls Stampede, where he scored 46 goals and 45 assists. His time at Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school and his early development through the San Diego Jr. Gulls and Anaheim Jr. Ducks underscore his long-standing commitment to the sport.
In a notable achievement, Harris was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 2023, selected overall at No. 133 in the fifth round.
