Join Us This Saturday for the ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive: Make a Difference Together!

Residents in Colorado are gearing up to tackle hunger in their communities. This Saturday, May 9, you can join the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive by placing bags of nonperishable food next to your mailbox. This initiative, backed by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United States Postal Service, aims to support local food banks and pantries.

It’s easy to participate. Just fill a bag with shelf-stable items like canned vegetables, pasta, rice, soup, and peanut butter. Make sure to place these items next to your mailbox before your mail carrier arrives. Remember to avoid glass containers and check that all food is unopened and within expiration dates.

This effort is especially important now. Food banks typically see a drop in donations after the holiday season, but need remains high as summer approaches. The Stamp Out Hunger campaign is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. Since it began in the early 1990s, the drive has collected over 1.8 billion pounds of food, benefiting countless communities across the U.S.

According to a recent Feeding America report, around 42 million people face food insecurity in the U.S., including 13 million children. Local donations from events like this can make a significant impact. Food collected in your community usually stays there, helping nearby families.

So this Saturday, grab a bag and help make a difference right in your neighborhood. For more information about the drive, you can verify details with your letter carrier here.
