Food Truck Battle 2026: A Flavorful Celebration

This past Saturday felt like a warm spring day in Central New York. Chevy Court at the New York State Fairgrounds was buzzing with excitement, looking more like an August fair than an early May weekend. Thousands of people flocked to the sixth annual Food Truck Battle, eager to sample delights from over 55 vendors.

The atmosphere was festive. Families enjoyed the KidZone, while others lined up for tasty treats like gyros, pork belly, deep-fried Oreos, and coffee-infused banana lattes.

After last year’s event was interrupted by storms, the organizers were relieved to see sunshine. Nick Sanford of Toss & Fire Pizza humorously expressed his joy, hoping to finally capture sunny memories instead of rainy ones.

A panel of judges included local firefighters and food enthusiasts from the PBS show “Spatchcock Funk.” They sampled delicious offerings throughout the day.

Sweet Treats Shine
This year, Blueberries & Lace claimed first place in the sweet category with their banana draft latte, complete with a fun message in the foam: “Vote for Us.” They paired the drink with an oatmeal cookie, which was likened to a gourmet version of a Little Debbie treat. Oh Crepe & Waffles rocked the second spot with their Boston cream “croffle,” while Baba Bowls on the Go took third with their “Trio of the Tropics.”

Savory Creators
In savory dishes, Oompa Loompyas captured top honors for their mini puffy taco tag team — a standout favorite. Redneck Reuben came in second with a $5 classic Reuben sandwich, and Mamacitas rounded out the top three with their Seoul Street nachos.

The Noodle House won the award for creativity, presenting a pho dip banh mi sandwich that drew plenty of buzz.

A Growing Tradition

The Food Truck Battle has become one of Central New York’s most loved spring events. It marks the unofficial beginning of the festival season, featuring a mix of flavors from around the globe: Korean street food, Colombian empanadas, and more.

A 2022 survey showed that food festivals significantly boost local economies, providing a platform for small businesses and serving as a joyous community gathering. As these events grow in popularity, they create a vibrant culinary scene for locals and visitors alike.

This year’s battle highlighted not just the food but also a sense of community and celebration. People shared their experiences on social media, posting pics of their favorite dishes and rallying support for their top vendors. The Food Truck Battle is not just about food; it’s a celebration of creativity and culture, making it a must-see event every spring.
