Edmonton Weather Alert: Overnight Rain Transforms into 5-10 cm of Snow – What You Need to Know!

The temperature in Edmonton is currently sitting at -1.3 C, with a light breeze from the northwest at 6 km/h. Just when we thought winter was behind us, March has reminded us that it isn’t quite done yet.

March is famous for its unpredictable weather. It often teases us with a glimpse of spring, only to pull us back into winter. Typically, we don’t see the last of the snow until at least the May long weekend.

Today, we’re expecting some light snow this morning, with around 2 cm expected. However, it seems like the weather is already putting on a show outside my window in Southeast Edmonton; the snow is coming down pretty heavily right now. The snow is forecasted to continue into the night, with total accumulations potentially reaching 5-10 cm by morning.

If you’re a skier or snowboarder, take note: Jasper and Banff National Parks have snowfall warnings. They’re expecting 10-25 cm of snow, with higher elevations possibly seeing up to 40 cm by Monday morning. It sounds like a great time for mountain sports!

As the week progresses, temperatures will drop and more snow is on the way. It looks like the winter wonderland will stick around a bit longer, so let’s make the most of it!

Today’s Weather:

  • Morning: Light snow, accumulations of 2 cm.
  • Temperature: Around 1 C.

Tonight:

  • Snow is expected to taper off.
  • Further accumulations of 5-10 cm.
  • Temperature drops to -9 C, with a wind chill making it feel like -14 C overnight.
