Let’s talk about math. I truly struggle with it. Writing and storytelling are my strengths, but when it comes to numbers, I’m lost. The same goes for stories with multiple characters. Introducing a new one can really shake things up. Just look at the recent feud between Seth Rollins and CM Punk. After their last showdown, I thought they didn’t need Roman Reigns in the mix. Their rivalry was intense enough without complicating it further. But boy, was I wrong.
This week, we had a cage match between Seth and Punk, and it delivered everything I hoped for. Rather than focusing on winning, both men were intent on punishing each other. They started the fight even before the bell rang and it was clear that for them, this wasn’t just about the match—it was personal. As the match progressed, both had moments when they could escape, but their hatred for each other kept them going. At one dramatic moment, Punk was so close to victory, but Seth challenged him, saying, “come take my house” if he wanted it so badly. This moment showed just how deep their animosity ran.
The intensity peaked when Seth hit Punk with his signature moves but struggled to get the three-count. With his back against the cage, Seth sat there staring at Punk. He was so consumed by the moment that he didn’t even notice the audience calling for his attention. Had he been paying attention, he would have seen this coming: Roman Reigns entered the ring, delivering a vicious beatdown.
Even though Roman had helped Seth win, Seth was furious. This feud goes way back, rooted in their history together, and Roman was making it clear he wasn’t finished with Seth or Punk. After laying out Punk, Roman noticed Paul Heyman trying to support him. This moment raises questions about Paul’s loyalty. Where does he stand? Is he with Roman or Punk? It seems like he has to choose a side, and that could complicate things even further.
WWE did a great job of weaving these storylines together. Despite my struggles with complicated math, I see that storytelling should be straightforward. When plots get too convoluted, they lose their impact. But in this case, the addition of Roman to Seth and Punk’s feud makes sense and adds depth to the story.
Switching gears to the women’s division, WWE also showed off some solid math there. What began as a simple exchange between Bianca Belair and IYO SKY escalated when Rhea Ripley entered the picture. It felt like Rhea wanted to stake her claim as the new champion. IYO isn’t backing down either—she’s ready for a challenge. This all hints at a possible triple-threat match at WrestleMania. It’s exciting to see how these storylines evolve and overlap.
Let’s not forget the matches that packed a punch this week. The New Day faced off against LWO in a thrilling match that showcased talent across the board. We also saw Chad Gable make a surprise return, showing off some impressive moves. It was refreshing to see these fresh matchups, leading to possible future rivalries.
Cody Rhodes stirred things up too. He’s building tension leading to John Cena’s potential heel turn. Fans are on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting what’s next.
This week’s action felt balanced with a smart build-up to the main event. Though it wasn’t overloaded with matches, the focus on the big story made it enjoyable. What are your thoughts on these storylines and matchups?
