Achieving a Zero-Waste Future in Andhra Pradesh by 2047: A Sustainable Vision for Our Planet

In Vijayawada, the state government is aiming for a zero-waste environment by 2047. This goal is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. Minister P Narayana announced this vision at the 12th Asia-Pacific Regional 3R Circular Economy Forum held in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s dedication to waste management and sustainable urban development.

The three-day forum brought together various leaders, including Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and representatives from multiple countries. Discussions focused on effective waste management, protecting our environment, and tackling climate change. Minister Narayana attended the event with other officials, including K Pattabhiram from the Swachh Andhra Corporation and Chief Secretary S Suresh Kumar.

While at the forum, Narayana toured international exhibits and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to sustainability. He mentioned the Vision 2047 document introduced by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, which emphasizes cleanliness and a balanced environment. This vision sets clear goals for achieving a circular economy.

“We’re making progress with waste-to-energy projects, creating bio-CNG plants, and tackling liquid waste management,” he said. The team also learned about waste management practices from other countries. Following the conference, they visited a legacy waste remediation plant in Sevapura village. Narayana pointed out that Andhra Pradesh is dealing with 55 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste and is exploring advanced treatment options. To support these initiatives, officials signed an agreement with Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal.
