Russell made his announcement during his birthday celebration, surrounded by friends and family, including Darius Johnson, a fellow freshman at Syracuse and one of Russell’s former teammates. Ranked among the top wide receivers nationally, Russell had narrowed his options down to four schools: Syracuse, Michigan, Florida State, and Oregon. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 195 pounds, Russell has impressive stats from his junior year, racking up 704 yards and 13 touchdowns. This level of achievement sets him apart from many other recruits Syracuse has pursued over the years, making him a key addition to the team.

Michigan seemed to have the upper hand, having hosted Russell last before his decision and having established a strong bond through head basketball coach Dusty May.
