ARLINGTON, Texas — Corey Seager, the All-Star shortstop and two-time World Series MVP, is feeling great and ready for spring training with the Texas Rangers. After undergoing hernia surgery twice last year, he’s excited about a normal offseason. “It’s nice to have a typical offseason for once,” he shared before the team’s awards dinner, where he was honored as the Rangers’ player of the year.
Seager had his first hernia surgery on January 30 last year and then another on September 13. While the first surgery kept him from most of spring training, he was fit to start the season. In 123 games, he batted .278 with 30 home runs and 74 RBIs. He found his rhythm after a slow start and hit .296 with 28 home runs and 66 RBIs in the latter part of the season.
Discussing his recovery, Seager noted, “Having experienced it before made it easier. I knew what to expect.” Once he completed his six weeks of recovery, he was able to ramp up his training gradually, unlike the previous year.
Throughout the postseason, he played through the pain of a left hernia, yet still managed an impressive .318 batting average, six homers, 12 RBIs, and 15 walks in 17 games. His performance was instrumental in helping the Rangers secure their first World Series title in 2023.
With spring training just around the corner, all eyes will be on Seager as he takes the field and continues his impressive career.
