Kissimmee, FL (March 9, 2025) – The DeSales University softball team faced a tough start to their spring break trip in Florida, losing both games on Sunday. They fell to Catholic University 6-1 and Ursinus College 3-1.
Game One: DeSales vs. Catholic University (Loss 1-6)
The Bulldogs took an early lead, scoring in the first inning. Sophomore Paige Hromin reached base after being hit by a pitch, stole second, and then crossed home plate due to an error. Unfortunately, that was short-lived. In the third inning, Catholic rallied and scored six runs, all two-out, leaving the Bulldogs trailing 6-1, which remained the final score. Senior Rachel Lowry was on the mound for DeSales, allowing four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings. Junior Shana Gugliandolo stood out with two of DeSales’ four hits.
Game Two: DeSales vs. Ursinus College (Loss 1-3)
This game began scoreless until the fourth inning when Ursinus struck first with a run. They extended their lead with another score in the fifth, making it 2-0. DeSales responded in the sixth when senior Tori Kenney hit an RBI double, bringing them closer at 2-1. However, Ursinus managed to add another run in the seventh, and despite their efforts, DeSales couldn’t get any more runs across the plate. Senior Tabitha Lawless pitched well, giving up just one earned run in 4 1/3 innings, but took the loss. Kenney finished the game strong, going 2-for-2 with a walk.
DeSales will look to bounce back in their next games against Utica University and Otterbein tomorrow.
