On International Women’s Day, the Central Railway made headlines by operating a Vande Bharat Express train crewed entirely by women. This event showcases the increasing presence and impact of women in the railway industry.

The train, known as the CSMT-Sainagar Shirdi Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22223), left Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) at 6:20 am. Asia’s first female loco pilot, Surekha Yadav, led the journey with the assistance of Sangeeta Kumari. The overall operations were supervised by Shweta Ghone.
A team of women Traveling Ticket Examiners (TTEs) also contributed to this initiative. The group included experienced head ticket examiners Anushka K P and M J Rajput, alongside senior ticket examiners Sarika Ojha, Suvarna Pashte, Kavita Maral, and Manisha Ram.
A spokesperson for Central Railway expressed pride in this endeavor, stating, “This initiative highlights the commitment of women in Indian Railways and reflects our dedication to empowering them in every area of our operations.”
Events like this are significant as they promote gender inclusivity and recognize the contributions of women in traditionally male-dominated fields. The successful operation of the Vande Bharat Express with an all-women crew not only marks a milestone for the Central Railway but also inspires future generations of women in the workforce.
