Exciting Changes at Eastern Washington University Women’s Soccer
Eastern Washington University has made the exciting announcement that Hayden Hollinger has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the women’s soccer team. This change comes just in time for the upcoming 2026 season.
Hollinger is entering his third year with the Eagles. Previously, he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, where he played a key role in the program’s development both on and off the field. Missy Strasburg, the head coach, expressed her gratitude, saying, “From day one, Hayden brought an exceptional work ethic. He has supported the team’s vision and introduced impactful initiatives.”
Hollinger’s responsibilities are vast. He oversees recruiting, player development, match prep, and tactical planning, among other areas. His work has already contributed to the team making back-to-back conference tournament appearances and achieving consecutive winning seasons, a first since 2016-2017. In the last two seasons alone, Eastern has seen 12 players receive All-Big Sky honors. This includes the recognition of Chloe Pattison and Lani Walker as back-to-back Big Sky Offensive MVPs.
“I’m really excited about where this program is heading,” Hollinger said. “Seeing the players grow both on the field and as individuals is incredibly rewarding.”
Before joining Eastern Washington, he coached at institutions like Oklahoma State and Kentucky. As a former collegiate athlete himself, he played soccer at both St. Mary’s and Hartwick and earned his MBA from The Citadel.
The Bigger Picture
The rise of women’s soccer at the collegiate level reflects a broader trend in sports. Recent data shows that participation in women’s sports at the college level has significantly increased, with a 76% rise in female athletes over the past decade, according to the NCAA. This not only enriches the sports culture but also empowers young women across the nation.
This positive environment for women’s sports can also be seen on social media, where hashtags like #WomensSports and #GirlPower are trending. Users share their reactions and support for the achievements of female athletes, fostering a community that encourages growth and visibility.
As EWU soccer prepares for its bright future under Hollinger’s guidance, it stands as a testament to the importance of dedicated coaching and strong mentorship in fostering young talent.
