Exciting Update: Why Metroid Prime 4’s Latest Trailer Isn’t Showcasing Switch 2 Footage

Last week, Nintendo showcased more of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond during their Switch Direct presentation. Many fans were blown away by the game’s stunning visuals, leading some to speculate whether it’s running on a potential Switch 2 console.

A recent video from Digital Foundry, however, confirmed that the footage we saw is still from the original Nintendo Switch. This is not surprising, as the visuals feature a lot of baked lighting and shadows that resemble the Metroid Prime Remaster released in early 2023. The trailer runs smoothly at 60 fps but has a resolution hovering around 900p. Some aspects, like the noticeable anti-aliasing and the overall “jagged” appearance, suggest it’s still firmly in the realm of the current console.

“There are no signs of Switch 2 features such as DLSS or upgraded lighting. The visuals are clearly in Switch 1 territory,” Digital Foundry commented.

Despite these limitations, Digital Foundry still praised Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for its impressive graphics. They believe it could be among the best-looking games on the current Switch, pushing the hardware to its limits.

There’s also speculation that Nintendo might bring Metroid Prime 4 to the next-generation Switch, similar to how they handled prior titles like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Digital Foundry noted, “Due to the game’s strong art direction, they probably won’t need to do much aside from improving the overall image quality.”

This conversation ties into broader trends in gaming. As technology moves forward, fans often debate how current games can improve on upcoming hardware. Recent data from a survey by the International Game Developers Association noted that 70% of developers are excited about new technology coming to consoles, suggesting a wider trend in the gaming industry moving towards enhanced graphics and gameplay experiences.

Many gamers took to social media to express their hope for what Metroid Prime 4 could accomplish. On platforms like Twitter and Reddit, the community shared excitement and nostalgia, with some recalling the original Metroid Prime’s impact on gaming. Fans are eager to see how far Nintendo can take the franchise while balancing its roots with innovative technology.

Overall, while Metroid Prime 4: Beyond might not be a showcase for the rumored Switch 2, its visuals still spark excitement and high expectations from players eager to explore Samus Aran’s universe once again.
