A man, Nicholas Alahverdian—also known as Nicholas Rossi—was found guilty of rape in Utah. This verdict came after a jury deliberated for three days. He now faces a sentence ranging from five years to life in prison, with sentencing set for October 20.
The case centers around an incident from 2008 when Alahverdian allegedly raped a woman after a brief relationship. The victim bravely came forward years later to testify against him. Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill praised her courage for seeking justice after so much time.
Alahverdian’s defense claims inconsistencies in the victim’s story, likening it to an “old puzzle” that’s missing pieces. They argued that her account cannot be fully verified. However, the prosecution maintained that Alahverdian had confessed his identity under oath during previous hearings.
Interestingly, Alahverdian had previously been reported dead in an online obituary in 2020, claiming he died from non-Hodgkin lymphoma. In a surprising twist, he was arrested in Scotland under a different name in 2022, where he pretended to be an Irish orphan.
