High Point Panthers Fall in Intense Mid-Week Showdown Against UNCG: Game Highlights and Key Takeaways!

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team faced UNC Greensboro on Tuesday night and lost a close game, 12-10, at Williard Stadium.

Records: High Point (12-5), UNCG (7-9)

Head Coach Joey Hammond spoke after the game, expressing disappointment in the team’s performance. He noted, “We left a lot of opportunities on the table. We didn’t do enough in any aspect to win.” Despite scoring ten runs, High Point struggled to maintain momentum and managed just two runs over the last six innings, which ultimately led to their defeat.

High Point started strong, quickly racking up seven runs in the first three innings. Konni Durschlag stood out with two home runs, finishing 3-for-6. Jake McCarter also hit a home run, marking his fourth consecutive game with a long ball. Additionally, Miggy Echazarreta went 3-for-3 and added a solo home run of his own in the third inning.

The Spartans made a significant push in the sixth inning, scoring three runs and taking the lead. High Point responded when Christian Smith flew out, enabling a runner to score and close the gap. However, UNCG answered back in the ninth inning with an RBI single, extending their lead. Jack Clark made a great play in left field, throwing out a runner at home to prevent further scoring.

In the bottom of the ninth, High Point couldn’t capitalize and ended the game without any runs, resulting in a loss to the Spartans.

High Point will kick off their Big South Conference schedule as they host Charleston Southern for a three-game series, starting on Friday, March 14, at 6:00 p.m.
