Kaplan recounted a meeting with Blizzard’s CFO where he was pressured to ensure immense revenue targets. “It felt surreal to be told my job depended on this,” he said, implying that this moment marked a turning point in his career.

After his departure, Kaplan reflected on the emotional toll it took on him. Leaving Blizzard felt painful, and he wished developers would better value their work and not surrender control to less deserving leaders. “I didn’t realize how broken I was until recently,” he admitted. “It was like grieving for something lost.”
