Joey Chestnut, the king of competitive eating, is making a grand return to the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest this Fourth of July. He missed last year’s event over a disagreement with Major League Eating about his sponsorship with Impossible Foods, which makes plant-based hot dogs.
In a recent post on X, he expressed his excitement. “This event means the world to me. It’s a cherished tradition and a huge part of my life,” he shared.
Despite working with plant-based food brands, Chestnut reassured fans that his love for classic hot dogs remains strong. "I’m ready to be back on the Coney Island stage and celebrate the Fourth of July with hot dogs in my hands!" he added.
Richard Shea, president of Major League Eating, welcomed Chestnut back with enthusiasm. He predicted this year’s contest would be the best one yet.
Last year, Patrick Bertoletti won the men’s contest by eating 58 hot dogs, while Miki Sudo took home the women’s title with 51. Chestnut still holds the record for the most consumed: 76 hot dogs in 2021.
Fun Fact: Did you know that the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest started in 1916? It has become a true American tradition, often drawing thousands of spectators and millions of viewers.
This year’s contest will take place on July 4 at Coney Island and will be aired on ESPN, so fans everywhere can join in the excitement.
