During her opening night as host of “Saturday Night Live U.K.,” Nicola Coughlan welcomed “SNL” icon Jimmy Fallon for some fun. They took a lively studio tour and even rapped about Coughlan’s new family film, “The Magic Faraway Tree.”
Coughlan kicked off her monologue with a cheeky nod to her role in “Bridgerton.” She humorously said, “I played an aristocrat who lives for drama,” adding she wanted to capture the “magic” of ’70s “SNL” by indulging in a “staggering amount of cocaine.”
“It’s a real honor to be here,” Coughlan said. “I think I manifested this moment. This place feels magical.” Fallon chimed in, “That’s because it is!”
Fallon then dropped a fun secret about “SNL”: “It’s actually live. You can go wherever you want. No one stops you.”
They took the audience on a playful backstage tour, surprising “Weekend Update” hosts Ania Magliano and Paddy Young, along with other cast members. Fallon challenged Coughlan to ask rock star Dave Grohl to be her best friend since, as he joked, “we’re live, he has to say yes.”
Surprisingly, Grohl responded with, “Sure, why not!”
The show swiftly transitioned into a digital short that spoofed Coughlan’s film. In the sketch, she claimed to have created an explicit rap to promote “The Magic Faraway Tree.”
Coughlan rapped, “It’s the faraway tree, and it’s magic as fuck,” flaunting a big jacket and playful braids. Other memorable lines included: “Critics agree, man this movie’s a blast. Except for The Times, who can eat my ass!”
Fallon appeared in the sketch as a caterer, rapping, “My name is Keith. I did the on-set catering. For when the cast and crew’s energy is wavering.”
The sketch ended on a humorous note as Coughlan hinted she and Keith had started dating during filming, teasing, “Let me tell you, things got pretty freaky.”
Coughlan’s hosting gig also marked the return of “SNL U.K.” after its mid-season break. Previous hosts included well-known names like Jamie Dornan and Riz Ahmed, each bringing their unique flair to the stage.
This episode attracted attention online, with viewers sharing their reactions on social media. Tweets highlighted Coughlan’s energy and humor, showing how warmly fans received her debut.
