Join Lorain County Health & Dentistry in Supporting Local Families: Donate to Second Harvest Food Bank Today!

Lorain County Health and Dentistry recently donated 217 pounds of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio. This effort came from a donation drive held over two weeks across six locations. Staff gathered nonperishable food items that will provide about 180 meals to the community.

Ben Kosewski, the CEO of Lorain County Health and Dentistry, shared that targeting Second Harvest ensured their contribution would reach many people. He emphasized how this initiative aligns with their goal to support local patients and community members.

The recent government shutdown heightened the need for this drive, as it affected SNAP benefits for many individuals. Kosewski noted, “Food insecurity is a common issue in our community. We wanted to make a meaningful impact.” The timing of the donation was crucial, as it aimed to boost food supplies ahead of Thanksgiving.

Kosewski highlighted that the donated items also included high-nutrition options that are shelf-stable. He expressed pride in his team’s commitment, stating, “We are looking for ways to give back beyond our core business, aligning with our mission.”

Emily Faust, the external communications and development coordinator for Second Harvest Food Bank, added that the holiday season often sees a rise in families needing additional food. The community’s spirit of generosity during the government shutdown has been noteworthy. She said, “We are incredibly grateful to Lorain County Health and Dentistry for their support. It means a lot, especially during the holidays.”

According to a recent report from Feeding America, nearly 38 million people in the U.S. face food insecurity. Donations like this one play a vital role in bridging the gap for families in need.

Community efforts can make a real difference. It’s inspiring to see organizations and individuals coming together, especially during challenging times. For more information about helping out, check out Second Harvest Food Bank.
