Join Us at the SEARK District Fair: Participate in the Exciting Return of the Fill the Truck Food Drive!

The Jefferson County Extension Homemakers are excited about the return of “Fill the Truck” at the 86th Annual SEARK District Fair. This event will take place on Thursday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hestand Stadium Fairgrounds in Pine Bluff.

The purpose of this food drive is simple: to combat food insecurity in Jefferson County. Patricia Burton, the Community Service Chairman, emphasizes that many families depend on local organizations for meals. She encourages everyone to contribute, whether by donating non-perishable food items or financial support.

Throughout the year, EHC members help four local food pantries: Neighbor to Neighbor, Salvation Army, the Transformation Project, and the White Hall Food Pantry. Their efforts are part of a larger commitment to community service. In addition to the food drive, this year’s projects include creating Cancer Caps and baking cookies for first responders.

Interestingly, food insecurity affects many people across the nation. Recent statistics show that 10% of U.S. households struggle with hunger. Initiatives like “Fill the Truck” not only address local needs but also raise awareness about this pressing issue.

Alongside the food drive, a Community Health Fair will also be hosted at the fairgrounds. Vendors interested in participating can reach out to Mary Ann Kizer, the Jefferson County Family & Consumer Sciences Agent, for more information.

These initiatives are crucial in supporting families in our community. Every contribution helps fill the gaps and ensures that no one goes hungry.
