UNA Men’s Golf Team Hosts Turtle Point Invite

The University of North Alabama men’s golf team is set to host its annual Turtle Point Invite on October 13-14 at the Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club in Killen, Alabama. The event features 36 holes of play on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.

Recent Performance

In their last outing, the Lions placed sixth at the Cullan Brown Collegiate in Lexington, Kentucky. This event was hampered by severe weather, forcing a reduced schedule. Despite the challenges, UNA finished strong, scoring 569, marking one of their best 36-hole scores in the Division I era. Junior Andrew Ferworn set a program record with an individual score of 137.

A Bit of History

Last season, Ferworn won the Cullan Brown Collegiate, earning him an ASUN Golfer of the Week title. He enters this tournament with a similar momentum, building on his recent success. His score of 68-69 in Lexington was impressive, and he led in par-3 scoring.

Tournament Details

This year, ten teams will compete, with North Alabama splitting into two squads. Local teams include Alabama A&M, Samford, Alabama State, and Wallace State, while others like Missouri State and New Orleans will also participate.

The Turtle Point Invite tees off on Monday at 9 a.m., using a shotgun start, on a par 72 course measuring 7,035 yards.

Recent Achievements

Last year’s tournament was a highlight for the Lions as they secured their 11th Turtle Point victory, finishing 25-under par. Ferworn’s back-to-back wins made history for the program.
